This is an amazing article about a teenager who has had an innovative socket bolted to his head to take his chemo treatment to blast his brain tumour. Far more targeted treatment but at the moment this is not available on the NHS as no funding available.
It's called Convection-enhanced delivery (CEH) - Cost £36,000 paid for with donations.
Gross thought I know but I remember reading that Russell Watson had one of his tumors removed via his nose also. Seems to be so much less intrusive and it would appear that the recovery time is certainly reduced.

Nice to read of a successful outcome but also comes with a warning! Don't put off a visit to the doctor if you are suffering continual headaches, especially if these are accommpanied by vision problems.
I was very apprehensive and scared and lots of worries were invading my very happy life. I can report that it was accessible, it was benign, all was removed successfully and I am still here, still living my happy life thanks to the skill of my medical team. So, I woke up and decided to take the day off, read my book on the beach for a few hours, maybe buy a bottle of bubbles for dinner and celebrate in style!

I did all these things and enjoyed my day with my fabulous husband and family. Later that same evening I received a distressed email from a close friend to say that his brother had just been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour but not many details at that stage. I offered my support and advised how important it was for him to stay positive for his brother and to remain calm until further details were forthcoming.

Was this my poke in the ribs to remind me to forever be grateful for how lucky I am? Was it a message to celebrate but to remain cautious? Whatever the message, I remain very thankful and always aware that there is always someone, somewhere else fighting to survive.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08439841833068235828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4838911653150956553.post-59001659797748407572013-06-28T15:11:00.000+03:002013-06-28T15:16:08.182+03:00So Exciting!I have been so excited this week! I cannot believe that bras are actually being sold with a built in pocket!

Seems commen sense after reading this to keep your mobile away from your body at all times. Guys...consider the pocket problem or tucking them in the top of trousers and another no, no, is sleeping with it under your pillow or next to your head so that you hear the wake up alarm.
I urge you all to watch this 3 minute video. It is a scary message!

Hannah's desire to beat this cancer led to make a number of treatments, clinical trials and lifestyle changes. One of the biggest changes has been dietary; specifically cutting out most sugars from her diet.

Learning that the exclusive food of cancer is sugar, Hannah cut out, almost completely, starchy carbohydrates and refined sugars by incorporating a sugar free/starch free food plan. The idea being that this diet would feed the body and mind and starve the cancer into submission.

This find certainly offers further opportunities to study possible brain tumour treatments over the coming years. Let's hope the funding is available:

Recent research from the University of Adelaide where the use of a drug called Emend has been used to stop substance P (a peptide associated with inflammation in the brain). The result was found to be a reduction in brain tumour growth - and also caused cell death in the tumour cells.

Very Exciting results!
